Horses trapped for 15 hours in Queen Creek

A horse was trapped for more than 15 hours in a large fissure last night near Sossoman Road and Riggs Road in Queen Creek.

The 13-year-old, 1100 pound horse name Cash began to be trapped around 10pm. The fissure was created by the heavy rainfall that hit Queen Creek. It stretched about a quarter mile and was around 7 feet deep.

By 9:30am, a trench team and two veterinarians were called to the scene.

For more than 4 hours, neighbors watched and waited as Rural Metro and Mesa firefighter crews tried to save the horse.

Sadly, Cash did not make it.

Neighbors were not only sad but angry at the situation. Charlotte Stacy, a neighbor, says this horse didn't deserve to die.

“All because people didn't tell us [the ground] opens up over here,” Stacy said. “Now a horse had to die and that is totally ridiculous.”
