3-year-old falls into Tempe swimming pool

Firefighters responded to the scene of a near-drowning after a 3-year-old boy was pulled from a swimming pool at a home near Price Road and Southern Avenue Friday night.

The child was apparently under the supervision of a 12-year-old child who had gone in to the home to grab a towel.

The 12-year-old and an adult, who was also at the home, were able to pull the child from the pool. The boy was reportedly breathing and taken to the hospital as a precaution.

The incident is the latest in a string of Valley accidents involving children and water.

Mesa experienced four drownings in three days this week.

A 3-year-old boy died Monday after drowning in an apartment complex pool. An 8-month-old girl drowned in a bathtub on Tuesday. A 1-year-old girl and a 3-year-old boy drowned Wednesday in a backyard pool.

Water safety experts are reminding parents to watch their children whenever they're around water and do not get distracted.
