A Valley father wants to know why an alleged hit-and-run driver is out on bail while the man's daughter is still lying in a hospital bed.

Audrey Marquez, 16, was struck in a crosswalk on her way to school.

Avondale police arrested Jose Angel Montes Chavez after officers found his damaged Ford Taurus abandoned a few blocks from the crosswalk.

On Monday, Audrey's father went to City Hall, hoping someone could explain how a judge could have already released the suspect over the weekend.

Audrey suffered multiple broken bones and at last check was listed in stable condition.

The case is expected to go to a grand jury.
