03:34 PM Mountain Standard Time on Friday, December 1, 2006
A suspect linked to a hit-and-run that seriously injured a 15-year-old girl in Avondale has been arrested, Avondale police say.
Jose Chavez, 52, of Phoenix was questioned Friday by police and arrested on one charge of felony hit-and-run and leaving the scene of an accident.
The teen, Audrey Marquez, was crossing in a marked crosswalk at Avondale Boulevard and Whyman Street while on her way to school Thursday when a Ford Taurus traveling on southbound Avondale reportedly struck her and left without stopping.
Audrey suffered serious injuries and was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital in Phoenix, where she is listed in stable condition.
The vehicle was later found near Durango Street and El Mirage Road with major front-end damage.
Chavez will be booked into Madison Street Jail.
