Are the Arizona Cardinals cursed?
05:18 PM Mountain Standard Time on Tuesday, October 17, 2006
It was looking like a win at the half but despite their 20-point lead, the Arizona Cardinals did not walk off the field with a win.
Some people say that's just sports, but others say it's because the team has been cursed for years.
The story goes that it was a long time ago when a Native American shaman couldn't get tickets to a game and became so frustrated he put a curse on the team.
And last night, they fumbled, they missed a field goal and in the end, they fell apart, but was it the players' and the coaches' fault or was it the so-called Cardinals Curse kicking in?
Pat McMahon of KTAR knows a lot about the Cardinals Curse. In fact, you could say he's an expert.
He said that back in 1988, a shaman became extremely frustrated when he couldn't get tickets to a game at Sun Devil Stadium.
"Now he heard Bill Bidwill had sold his tickets to someone else, and he said that forever there would be a curse on the Cardinals," McMahon said.
Mike Peterson said that it's just superstition.
"If they want to buy it," he said. "I'm not a superstitious person at all."
"Is the team cursed? I don't think so," said Cardinals fan Tyler Wyckmans. "They blew a few calls. They put up a good number in the first half, but they couldn't hold onto it."
Now, most fans don't actually believe the Cardinals are cursed.
Even McMahon has his doubts.
"I may have made that up, but it sounds better than Neil blew the field goal last night. It's so much more interesting, don't you think?" he said.
But just in case there really was a shaman who cursed the team, "It wouldn't hurt to find someone who put it on and give him some tickets," said Larry Arteaga, a fan.
