Twin heart patients to return home
08:03 AM Mountain Standard Time on Thursday, June 22, 2006
LOS ANGELES -- An 11-month-old twin boy who made what doctors at UCLA called a "miracle" recovery while awaiting a heart transplant will return home to Phoenix today with his parents and brother. Nate Draper's condition improved so dramatically he was released without the transplant he was awaiting. His brother, Nick, received a transplant in February. Last year, the brothers were transported to Los Angeles from Phoenix to await new hearts. The twins were born with an extremely rare condition known as dilated cardiomyopathy, which caused their hearts to swell and barely pump blood. (Copyright 2006 by The Associated Press.
