Police release 911 tapes from bus brawl

UPDATE FEB. 22:

The Gilbert Police Department has concluded the investigation from "School Bus Incident" which occurred on 02/15/2008. The police report will be forwarded to the Maricopa County Attorney's office requesting the following charges be filed:

Kim Sullivan: aggravated assault (intentional touching of a child 15 and under) and disorderly conduct - fighting.

Samantha Taylor: aggravated assault (school employee) and disorderly conduct - fighting

Cassandra Schlosser and Erin Sullivan: disorderly conduct - fighting.

UPDATE FEB. 21:

The following is a press release from the Gilbert Police Department:

On 02/15/08, around 1457 hours, a school bus driver from the Higley Unified School District and a student were involved in a verbal confrontation which escalated to a physical confrontation. Two additional students then became involved in the incident.

Kim Sullivan, Cassandra Schlosser, Samantha Taylor and Erin Sullivan were involved in the verbal and physical confrontation while on the school bus on a side street near Queen Creek/Higley. Erin Sullivan, Kim’s daughter, who also rides the same bus, came to Kim Sullivan’s aid after the physical confrontation began between Kim Sullivan and Samantha Taylor. Cassandra Schlosser then intervened.

The school district is conducting an administrative investigation and has been cooperating with Gilbert Police Department’s criminal investigation. The report, once completed, will be forwarded to the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office requesting charging.

ORIGINAL REPORT:

GILBERT -- Gilbert Police are investigating a brawl that brokeout Friday afternoon on a Williamsfield High School bus between the femal bus driver and three students.

Gilbert Police Lt. Eric Shuhandler says investigators are reviewing video tape from the bus and are interviewing students to determine exactly what happened and if any charges will be brought. Lt. Shuhandler says the brawl began during a 5 minute verbal confrontation between a young female high school student and the bus driver in her 50's. He says the arguement escalated into physical violence between the bus driver and student that lasted about 1 minute. During that time, two other student joined in the fight. It was unclear if the other students were helping or trying to stop the fight.

Shuhandler says the bus was stopped in the Gilbert residential area of Arrowhead an Tanquitz.

No one was hurt bad enough to require hospitalization.

Police could not say when they would have the investigation completed.
