PHOENIX -- Travelers flying in and out of Sky Harbor International Airport will soon have a much easier time getting to and from their flights.

On Thursday, Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton and Aviation Director Danny Murphy announced that the PHX Sky Train will open to the public on April 8.

PHX Sky Train will provide travelers with a connection between Terminal 4, east economy parking, and the light rail station at 44th Street and Washington.

Travelers will be able to access PHX Sky Train from the third level of Terminal 4, which is where the gates and security checkpoints are located.

“This is an exciting day for the city of Phoenix and Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport,” said Mayor Stanton. “The PHX Sky Train’s connection to light rail paves the way for convenient, multi-modal transportation to and from the airport and is a true point of pride for our city.”

PHX Sky Train will run 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, with trains arriving and departing every three to four minutes.

PHX Sky Train stations will be equipped with boarding pass kiosks and pet parks.

Early bag check, which is already available at the east economy lot, will also be made available at the 44th Street station on April 8. The 44th Street station will feature a cell phone waiting lot as well.

In early 2015, PHX Sky Train will extend to Terminal 3 with a walkway to Terminal 2.

PHX Sky Train will also eventually extend to the airport’s rental car center.
