PHOENIX -- A Valley man has died after being injured in a weekend hit-and-run.

According to police, Jesus Jimenez, 66, was behind the wheel of a Toyota Scion when he was rear-ended by a Nissan Altima at 19th and Northern avenues Saturday afternoon. His wife was also in the car.

The driver of the Altima, Isaac Richard Quesada, 20, decided to drive off, which is when Jimenez grabbed onto the vehicle as it left the scene.

Quesada traveled approximately 300 to 400 feet with Jimenez holding on before hitting a Nissan Maxima that contained a 41-year-old woman, the woman's daughter and her 17-month-old granddaughter.

“As the driver was attempting to flee the scene he was taken into custody by witnesses,” said Sgt. Tommy Thompson with Phoenix police. “They detained him for the officers. The officers were able to take him into custody.”

Quesada reportedly pushed several witnesses, kicked one in the arm and hit another in the face while they were trying to detain him.

Jimenez was taken to the hospital in critical condition but later died from his injuries. His wife was not seriously injured. The three people inside the Maxima suffered only minor injuries.

According to court documents, hospital blood tests showed a blood alcohol level of 0.237 along with the presence of marijuana and cocaine.

Quesada was arrested and booked into the Maricopa County Jail on one count of manslaughter, one count of aggravated assault, three counts of endangerment, two counts of assault, one count of hit-and-run, and one count of hit-and-run with injuries/death.

His bond was set at $1 million.

Police said Quesada had a female passenger at the time of the incident who fled the scene on foot. She has yet to be located. She was described as a Hispanic female, 5 feet 3 inches tall, 120 pounds with shoulder-length hair. She was wearing a white T-shirt, blue jeans and had a pink hair tie on her wrist.
