PHOENIX -- A Gilbert woman accused of pretending to have cancer in order to collect money has admitted to the allegations.
Kelly Ann Wasko entered a guilty plea Wednesday to charges of theft, attempted theft, and fraudulent schemes.
Wasko, who turns 42 this month, is due back in court on May 7 for sentencing.
Wasko had claimed that she was in need of a bone marrow transplant that her insurance wouldn’t cover.
She proceeded to start a Facebook page asking for help paying for the procedure.
Wasko collected more than $12,000, which included a $1,000 donation from her own daughter.
Wasko was arrested on multiple felony charges on Dec. 3.
She originally pleaded not guilty in the case.
