TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) — Authorities say police were forced to use pepper spray to disperse several students after a rivalry Tempe basketball game.

The Arizona Republic reports (http://bit.ly/Vv0eus) that police used the pepper spray Thursday when students would not disperse and began throwing water bottles and other items at each other.

Linda Littell, director of communications for the Tempe Unified School District, said students from the opposing high schools formed groups and began yelling at each other in the parking lot outside Corona's auditorium.

The game was between Marco de Niza and Corona del Sol High schools.

The pepper spray, which Littell said affected several students, got the groups to disperse.

Police said that nobody was injured and no arrests were made.
