FOUNTAIN HILLS, Ariz. (AP) — Authorities have identified the bicyclist killed in a hit-and-run crash as a neurologist at a Phoenix medical center.
Maricopa County Sheriff's officials say Dr. Marwan Maalouf was struck Sunday while riding his bicycle in Fountain Hills east of Phoenix.
Saint Joseph's Barrow Neurological Institute officials say Maalouf was a scientist, teacher and mentor for the past two years. They say he had been preparing to do research on treatment patients with Alzheimer's disease.
Authorities say a man has been arrested and booked into jail on suspicion of leaving the scene of an at-fault fatal traffic collision.
The Arizona Republic says investigators found debris from the suspect's pickup truck and bicycle tire marks inside the bike lane that showed there had been an impact with the vehicle.
