MESA, Ariz. (AP) — A Mesa police officer has fatally shot a man at a city motel.
They say the incident began around 11 a.m. Wednesday when Jesus Eduardo Hinojos-Maldonado, 22, allegedly threatened someone near the Sunland Motel.
Mesa air patrol spotted the man and officers confronted him.
Police say the man allegedly threatened to draw a weapon from his lower back area and officers shot him.
They say a handgun was recovered at the scene. No officers were injured.
Police say Hinojos-Maldonado was taken to a Mesa hospital and underwent surgery but later died of his wounds.
