PHOENIX (AP) — Sandra Day O'Connor is set to dedicate Maricopa County Superior Court's new building on Tuesday in what officials say is the largest construction project in county history.

Long before she was a justice in the U.S. Supreme Court, O'Connor served as a judge in Maricopa County Superior Court.

She is set to deliver the keynote speech during Tuesday's 3 p.m. event.

The new downtown Phoenix court tower took more than three years to build at a cost of $335 million.

The courthouse adds 22 courtrooms to the 52 that were in the old building as the number of criminal cases in the county has nearly doubled since 2000.

County Supervisor Max Wilson calls the new building "a fitting centennial project."
