TEMPE, Ariz. -- Federal authorities arrested a Tempe man who has been on the run for more than a decade after being convicted of sexual assault charges.

Tempe police spokesman Sgt. Michael Pooley said Mazen Diamond was taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals Service on Monday.

Diamond and his co-defendant, Antonio Julio Sanchez, pleaded guilty to sexual assault and surreptitious videotaping in 2002 then failed to appear for sentencing.

Pooley said Diamond and Sanchez drugged a woman while at a bar on March 18, 2001, and then took her to their Tempe apartment where they sexually assaulted her and videotaped the assault. Five days later, they drugged another woman, sexually assaulted her and videotaped the assault.

Sanchez was arrested in Florida on April 24.

Diamond was found living with his girlfriend and two young children in Atlanta. Pooley said he had started a new life and identity.

Diamond was booked into the Fulton County Jail and is now awaiting extradition to Arizona.
