14-year-old joyrider charged after hitting woman walking her dog

UPDATE -- Thursday, Nov. 12:

CORNVILLE, Ariz. -- The 62-year-old woman was treated for numerous broken bones and fractures as a result of the accident. She is scheduled for admission to a rehabilitation center in the Prescott Valley area.

The 14-year-old driver was identified as Lily Speers and she was arrested by deputies at her home on Tuesday.

Speers has been charged with aggravated assault, endangerment, criminal damage, reckless driving and aggressive driving. She was booked at the Prescott Juvenile Detention Center.

Deputies have determined that excessive speed was likely a factor in the accident.

Several neighbors in the area told deputies they have seen Speers driving alone on numerous occasions and speeding on neighborhood streets.

CORNVILLE - Teen joyrider strikes elderly woman walking her dog in Cornville, AZ.

Around 5 p.m. on Friday Yavapai County Sheriff's Office responded to a reported vehicle accident on Swinging Bridge Lane.

Deputies learned upon arriving at the accident scene that the 62-year-old female was struck by a 2001 silver Toyota sedan driven by a 14-year-old female.

The teen admitted to talking the car from her home and losing control while driving on Swinging Bridge Lane.

The teen took the car without parental permission.

The dog was also treated by a vet for minor injuries.

According to the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office, the victim suffered a broken leg along with other injuries that do not appear to be life threatening.

The teen is in the custody of her mother pending further investigation and recommendation of charges.
