RIMROCK - A teacher is behind bars after hindering a Yavapai County Sheriff's Office investigation into reports of child molestation.
On December 8, a YCSO deputy responded to a report of child molestation in Rimrock. According to YCSO the 13-year-old victim's mother called to report that a 17 year-old had sexual intercoure with her daughter and she was concerned for her daughter's welfare.
A YCSO detective from the Criminal Investigations Bureau began to investigate the case and discovered that a teacher at Beaver Creek School, Scott Worden, 42, failed to report the molestation.
Law states that school employees must report abuse and other serious crimes against minors.
YCSO said that a few days after the alleged molestation Worden tried to persuade the victim and her mother not to report the incident to police through intimidation.
Worden had been allowing Champlin to stay in his Rimrock home.
Worden was charged with hindering prosecution and booked into Campe Verde Detention Center. He also faced charges of school personnel failing a duty to report a sexual offense against a minor.
The 17-year-old suspect, Randy Champlin Jr, faces three counts of molestation of a child.
