SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Police say a suspicious device found in the ATM lobby of a Scottsdale bank "was deemed to be inert" by the Mesa bomb squad.

Employees of the Chase bank branch at 10011 E. Dynamite Blvd. spotted the device at about 8:15 a.m., before the bank had opened.

"The item is fashioned to appear to be an explosive device," said Officer Dave Pubins of the Scottsdale Police Department.

The employees were evacuated and the bomb squad called in.

According to Pubins, the EOD unit gave the all-clear at 1 p.m.

"As evidence continues to be collected, the bank will not reopen today," Pubins said in en email to media outlets. "It is anticipated that it will reopen tomorrow."

Pubins said bank managers have not received any demands or missives in connection with the device.

Information will be updated as it develops.
