YUMA, Ariz. -- U.S. Border Patrol agents said drug smugglers used a pneumatic-powered cannon to fire cans filled with marijuana into the United States.
Agents received a report of suspicious containers in a field near Yuma on Friday. Responding agents found 33 cans of marijuana with a net weight of 85 pounds.
The agents searched the area and recovered a carbon dioxide tank.
They believe the cans were propelled 500 feet with the air-powered cannon.
The marijuana is valued at $42,500. It was seized for destruction.
Border Patrol and Mexican authorities are working together to investigate the smuggling attempt.
