SURPRISE -- A Wal-Mart security guard was kidnapped at knifepoint Tuesday night in Surprise.

According to police, a 60-year-old security employee saw three men loading bundles of folded cardboard onto a truck at the rear of the store near Litchfield and Bell roads at approximately 11:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Surprise police Sgt. Mark Ortega said the guard followed the men out of the parking lot. When the suspects stopped at an intersection, one of them got out of the truck and confronted the victim with a knife.

Ortega said the suspect then got into the victim's vehicle and forced him to follow the truck.

Both vehicles drove to the area of Interstate 17 and Table Mesa Road where the suspects released the victim and his vehicle.

Ortega said the victim was not hurt and the case is under investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Surprise Police Department at 623-222-4000.
