Suspect arrested in fatal shooting at apartment complex

PHOENIX -- Police arrested a suspect in connection with a deadly shooting that happened in front of a Phoenix apartment complex late Wednesday night.

It happened at about midnight at 40th Avenue and Camelback Road.

According to Phoenix police, Justin B. Spencer, 25, and his fiance had gone to the Estancia del Sol apartments to visit friends.

At some point there was a fight and somebody pulled a gun. Witnesses said several shots were fired.

Spencer was sitting in his car when he was hit several times. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officer Luis Samudio said investigators received information from a witness that led to the arrest of the suspect, Gary Steven Oliver, 26. Prior to his arrest, Oliver overdosed on crystal methamphetamine and was transported to a local hospital.

The investigation is ongoing.
