SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- The Scottsdale Museum of the West received a major donation this week, one that museum staff say will help them meet their goal of opening the museum up by the end of the year.

A group called the Scottsdale Charros donated $250,000 to the museum, with a correspondingly large check. The Charros are a civic group that raises their money through spring training baseball, where they host the San Francisco Giants.

"We're working it toward our goal of having it open by the end of the year," said Jim Bruner of the museum. "This is a dream that many of us in Scottsdale have had for 10, 15, 20 years."

The check was presented on horseback to the museum on Wednesday, which was also a celebration of the final steel beam being lifted in the museum's construction.

The museum will be owned and built by the City of Scottsdale and operated by a nonprofit group. For more information, visit the Scottsdale Museum of the West's web page.
