PHOENIX - SRP customers will soon be paying more for electricity.

The utility's governing board voted to raise rates.

The Salt River Project is trying to offset the billion-dollar construction cost of a power plant and other equipment in eastern Arizona.

Your power bills will go up starting May 1 by 4.9 percent.

Customers on the basic price plan will pay nearly $6 more a month.
