MESA, Ariz. -- It may not have been a high-speed chase, but officers from the Mesa Police Department were called to action on Sunday to track down a pair of runaway tortoises.
A family member was house sitting in Mesa while other members of the family were out of town. However, the house sitter lost track of the family's two tortoises and the reptiles made their escape.
Officers found the African spurred-thigh tortoises in the area around 32nd Street and McKellips Road, where the animals were put in a squad car and returned home, but not before Sgt. Tony Landato got his commentary in.
