PHOENIX -- Initiatives are under way Valley-wide by law enforcement to help keep you safer while shopping this holiday season.

Law enforcement will be using a variety of tactics to help cut down on auto thefts and robberies at malls. There will be a highly visible presence of uniformed law enforcement, but undercover tactics such as surveillance, sting operations and bait cars will also be employed.

"We're not just a deterrent," said Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio. "Sometimes in law enforcement you want to catch people, too."

The initiatives, undercover and public, run through the New Year.
