TEMPE - A new study out of Arizona State University reveals prescription drug abuse is way up in Maricopa County.

The ASU study found that more inmates currently incarcerated in county jails are abusing legal painkillers, which means more people on the outside are using, too.

Researchers say similar studies predicted the rise of the crack epidemic in the 1980s and the methamphetamine boom of the 1990s.
