MEADVIEW, Ariz. (AP) -- Construction crews paving a road to the Grand Canyon Skywalk have uncovered what authorities say appear to be human remains.

U.S. Bureau of Land Management spokeswoman Deborah Stevens says environmental consultants have been called in to perform a cultural inventory.

She says the remains have been there for some time and could be part of a burial site.

The BLM is collaborating with the Hualapai tribe to see if the area is a historical gravesite.

The area has been used for thousands of years by American Indians and others for farming, hunting, ceremonies and other activities.

Construction has temporarily halted in the area where the remains were uncovered by a road grader Monday, but authorities say work on the rest of the roadway is continuing.
