APACHE JUNCTION, Ariz. (AP) -- Tempe police say it remains unknown how a 19-year-old college student whose body was found in a desert wash died and that her death isn't officially a homicide.
Tempe police Sgt. Michael Pooley says the department issued a clarification on Adrienne Salinas' death because some media reports have called it a homicide.
Pooley acknowledges police are treating the death as a homicide for investigation purposes, but he says the medical examiner hasn't officially determined "cause or manner" of death.
Salinas was last seen early the morning of June 15. Police say she was headed to her boyfriend's Scottsdale home but didn't arrive there.
Her badly decomposed remains were found Aug. 6 in a wash in Apache Junction.
Pooley says a search of the area may resume next week.
