PHOENIX – Phoenix police have released the names of two suspects arrested during a raid at a convenience store near 19th Avenue and Camelback Road Thursday night.

Tyran Williams, 41, and Pedro Medina, 33, were taken into custody after members of the Phoenix Police Department's Gang Enforcement Unit, Homeland Security Investigations, FBI and Arizona State Liquor Enforcement served a search warrant at Eddie's Quick Stop at approximately 6:30 p.m.

Police said the sweep was part of a yearlong investigation into criminal activity that was occurring on site and involved members of a criminal street gang and employees of the convenience store.

Detectives had learned that employees were involved in drug sales, prostitution and liquor violations, according to police spokesman Sgt. Steve Martos. In addition, these employees and others allowed assaults and aggravated assaults to occur on their property.

Authorities also served search warrants at Medina's home near Bell Road and 31st Avenue in Phoenix and Williams' home near Camelback Road and 35th Avenue. Martos said detectives seized multiple weapons, marijuana, body armor, two vehicles, cash and other evidence.

The owner of the business declined to speak to detectives and has not been booked, according to Martos. The store owner's attorney told 3TV's Karen Brown that his client knew nothing about the alleged crimes.

Police said the raid was connected to last week's major gang sweep during which they received more information that led them to the store.

The investigation is ongoing.
