PHOENIX -- A pair of unrelated shootings in Phoenix  left one man dead and another in extremely critical condition Sunday

A man in his 30s was sitting on his porch near 24th Place and McDowell Road at about 6 p.m., when, according to police, a suspect in a red Pontiac Grand Prix pulled up, got out of the car, and started shooting.

Several shots were fired and the victim was hit at least once in the head. Phoenix police said the man was taken to the Maricopa Medical Center in very critical condition.

The suspect in the red Grand Prix got back in his car and drove off after the shooting.  Police have no suspects in the case.

Earlier in the day, around 3:30 p.m., Phoenix police responded to another shooting near 55th Avenue and Indian School Road.

Authorities told 3TV that a man in his 20s opened the door to his Maryvale apartment to a person with a gun. Police said the suspect opened fire as soon as the door swung open, hitting the victim several times.

The victim was found dead just inside the door of the apartment by the time police arrived on scene.

Police have a person of interest in custody for the Maryvale shooting but have yet to call that person a suspect.
