Map: Fraudulent impersonation
GILBERT, Ariz. -- Gilbert police are issuing a warning after two women impersonated workers from an animal rescue group and solicited money from a resident.
Sgt. Jesse Sanger said a homeowner called police and reported that two women came to her door near Val Vista Drive and Pecos Road on Friday and asked for donations for Halo Animal Rescue. They had a German shepherd and a tan-colored mixed-breed dog with them.
The women said the rescue needed money to keep from closing.
The homeowner did not give any money to the solicitors and decided to research the legitimacy of the women's claims. She sent an email to Halo Animal Rescue, which in turn contacted the police to report the fraudulent impersonation.
The suspects are described as white females in their mid-40s. One had short blond hair and one had long blond hair.
