PHOENIX -- Neighbors in one Phoenix neighborhood step in to detain a suspected burglar.

It all started Tuesday evening when a man tried to break into a home in the Sunnyslope area.

The suspected burglar broke a window, and was apparently trying to steal some things from a house.  But that's when some neighbors noticed the commotion, and went on the offensive.

You can see the video from our Newschopper, showing the neighbors tackling the suspect, and holding him down until police arrived.

"This has always been a pretty good neighborhood," says homeowner Marlene Blakeney, who was not home at the time of the attempted break-in. "The neighbors who have lived here have been here for a long time. I've been in this house for 30 years and we have always watched out for each other."

Marlene says they've had a lot of break-ins in this neighborhood lately, and that they do see many homeless people here. She says she's grateful for her neighbors' quick action.

Police were able to recover the lawnmower and a painting that the suspect reportedly tried to take from Marlene's home.
