PHOENIX -- Almost 600 people across Arizona were arrested over the Memorial Day weekend for allegedly driving impaired.

According to the Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, 559 people were arrested for DUI between May 23 and May 28.

Of the 559 arrested, 148 were charged with extreme DUI, meaning their BAC was reportedly above .15. Sixty of the people arrested were charged with aggravated DUI.

While the 559 DUI arrests were up from 2012’s total of 547, the number of DUI arrests has been on a downward trend over the past few years.

In 2010, 849 people were arrested for DUI during the Memorial Day weekend, while in 2011, 614 people were accused of driving impaired.
