PHOENIX -- The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for southwest Arizona, which includes the Phoenix metro area.
The watch is in effect until 10 p.m. Thursday.
The watch includes includes the Phoenix metro area, Casa Grande, the western portions of Pima County, all of Yuma County, up the Colorado River through Parker and Lake Havasu.
Storms in the area contain a lot of lightning and the potential to produce tornadoes, according to the National Weather Service.
A tornado watch means conditions are favorable for tornadoes and severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area. People in these areas should be on the lookout for threatening weather conditions and listen for later statements and possible warnings.
