PHOENIX - A homicide investigation is underway involving the United States Military in Phoenix.

The body of a National Guard soldier was discovered Saturday morning in a parking lot next to the city's armory.

The victim has been identified as 45-year old Karl Markovic. Phoenix police say another National Guard member discovered him in the parking lot a few hours after he was supposed to report for drill.

3TV is told Markovic, who was a sergeant, was found outside of his car. Police say he had a large cut on his body, but would not say where. He was also dressed in partial uniform.

The parking lot where he was discovered is on city property right next to the armory but officials say members of the guard use it regularly.

Initially there were questions about whether the death was a murder or suicide. Police now say they are investigating this as a homicide while the medical examiner works to determine the cause of death.

Police also tell 3TV Markovic was a Phoenix resident. He leaves behind a wife and kids.
