GLENDALE, Ariz.-- A Glendale mother has died after diving in a pool to save her son, who was pretending to drown.

The incident happened Sunday May 15 at a home near 72nd Drive and Glendale Avenue.

Police say a 5-year-old boy was in the pool and his mother was supervising him from outside the water.

The boy was horse-playing and possibly pretended to drown. That is when the woman, identified as 37-year-old Biby Zachariah, jumped in to help but started to struggle herself.

After an attempt to save her, the boy ran over to a neighbor's house.

A couple began to perform CPR and called 911.

Zachariah was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital in critical condition. She died one week after the incident on Sunday afternoon.
