MESA, Ariz. -- Police in Mesa are investigating a homicide at an apartment complex on University Drive near Alma School Road.

Police said the victim, 29-year-old Anthony Wozniak, apparently was stabbed multiple times during a fight. He had trauma to the chest.

Police were sent to the scene after someone reported a disturbance.

People who live in the area said they heard fighting.

Police detained one person.

"We do believe that we have the other party that is involved in custody," said Sgt. Steve Berry with the Mesa Police Department. "As far as the safety of the complex and the community, we believe that's intact. The other person involved, we do have detained."

The suspect has been identified as Jeremy G. Hench, 24.

Hench was questioned by police and released. Several other witnesses were questioned as well.

At this time no arrests have been made in the case pending further investigations.

The original cause of the fight is still under investigation.
