COTTONWOOD - Yavapai County Sheriff's Office deputies arrested a man for crashing his vehicle and then leaving the scene.
On November 21 YCSO deputies responded to a reported car accident outside of the Village of Oak Creek. Deputies found a 1996 Honda passenger car has crashed. They found the radio still on and the airbag deployed. Blood was also found inside the car as it appears the car rolled.
Minutes following the discovery YCSO received a report from the suspect Matthew Burke, 30, that his Honda vehicle had been stolen.
In a interview with Burke deputies noticed Burke has cuts on his hands and a lump on his forehead.
He gave deputies a story about being at the Blue Moon Cafe, walking to his parents house and when his parents returned to pick up his car it was missing.
After interviewing Burke's parents deputies became suspicious of his story and gave the suspect an opportunity to tell the truth. Burke then admitted to crashing his car.
Burke was transported to the Camp Verde jail and booking on a DUI charge after a breathalyzer revealed a .169 BAC.
