PHOENIX -- Maricopa County sheriff's deputies arrested a 36-year-old Phoenix man for allegedly threatening to kill Sheriff Joe Arpaio.

According to the sheriff's office, Raul Rentiera Rivera made those threats to 911 emergency call center operators and separately to Phoenix police officers.

Rivera reportedly called the 911 emergency call center twice on Friday and said, "My name is Raul and I’m going to kill your racist (expletive) sheriff because he is a racist."

Rivera reiterated his threat to kill Arpaio when he was arrested Sunday for aggravated DUI and resisting arrest, according to the sheriff's office.

"Sheriff Arpaio knows these threats are part of doing business," said spokesman Lt. Justin Griffin. "In the future, we are going to elaborate on other threats and corruption emanating from foreign countries."

Rivera was booked into Fourth Avenue Jail and faces two counts of threatening and intimidating the sheriff in addition to the DUI/resisting arrest charges.

Threatening and intimidating are class one misdemeanors.
