PHOENIX – The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office spent part of their weekend rounding up parents who haven’t been paying for their kids.

MCSO said they launched Operation Deadbeat Doomsday for Delinquent Moms and Dads on Saturday morning.

MCSO deputies and posse volunteers will be serving a total of 622 child support warrants on parents who have failed to make their child support payments.

Seventy-six of the warrants were for mothers who have fallen behind on their child support.

Sheriff Joe Arpaio said Saturday's operation resulted in 37 arrests and 49 warrants being cleared. There was also more than $203,000 in child support collected.

“We round up these moms and dads who have not only turned their backs on a court order, but on their own children,” said Arpaio. “This is a time of year when kids and families need all the financial support they can get. School supplies are costly and if parents refuse a court order to do what is right to financially support the children they brought into the world, then we will [do] our job and bring them to jail where they can think about their responsibilities.”

MCSO has been conducting roundups since 2002. Nearly 2,000 parents have been arrested for more than $14 million in back payments.
