PHOENIX -- A bomb squad detonated a suspicious package found outside the Central Court Building in downtown Phoenix Wednesday morning.
At approximately 8 a.m., the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office received a call of a bomb threat at the Central Court Building near Jefferson Street and Third Avenue. Deputies scoured the area looking for anything suspicious.
An unattended backpack was found in front of the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors auditorium and a bomb squad was called to the scene.
The bomb squad used an X-ray to determine there was a circuit board inside and they detonated the device. They used a robot to check the debris to make sure everything was safe before they cleared the area.
The first floor of the Central Court Building was evacuated, but court was in session everywhere else. The central plaza was roped off for the investigation.
