TUCSON, Ariz. -- A 69-year-old woman who fell about 100 feet into a canyon near Tucson and had to stay there overnight was rescued after a man scouting for deer spotted her.
The Pima County Sheriff's Department said Margret Brummer, of Green Valley, was found after the man returned to Box Canyon Sunday afternoon.
The man had noticed a car parked on the side of the road on Saturday and the car was still there so he went to investigate.
He called authorities after hearing cries for help and seeing the woman approximately 100 feet below.
Search and rescue personnel responded and hiked down into Box Canyon where they discovered Brummer had injuries to her head and body. A helicopter lifted the woman out of the canyon.
Brummer was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. She was alert and in stable condition on Monday.
Box Canyon is located approximately 40 miles south of Tucson, between Green Valley and Sonoita.
