SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Temperatures are dropping throughout the Valley, but the Hot Chocolate 15/5k will keep you warm this weekend by having you run and giving you a tasty cup of hot chocolate.

The race is on Sunday, December 8, at Salt River Fields at Talking Stick. The 5k starts at 7:30 a.m. followed by the 15k at 8:30 a.m.

When participants reach the finish line they receive a sweet treat of hot chocolate.

Proceeds from the Hot Chocolate 15/5k benefit the Ronald McDonald House, which provides temporary housing for families that travel to Phoenix to get medical care for their children.

About 2,000 families check into Ronald McDonald House each year and stay about 20,000 nights, said Nancy Roach, executive director of Ronald McDonald House of Phoenix.

Families are asked to pay $15 each night they stay, but no one is turned away if they can’t pay. Last year, about 12 percent could afford to pay their stay, Roach said.

Since Ronald McDonald House is community funded, event such as the Hot Chocolate 15/5k help keep it running.
