GLENDALE -- The Glendale home of the man accused of running down his daughter in what's believed to be an honor killing caught fire Friday morning.

Firefighters were called out to Faleh Hassan  Almaleki's home near 75th and Glendale avenues at about 4 a.m.

While the exact cause of the fire has not been determined, Daniel Valenzuela, a spokesman for the Glendale Fire Department, said it does not appear to be suspicious. Early indications are that a meat smoke in the garage might be to blame.

One of the nine people inside the home when the fire started heard the smoke alarm go off. All nine people, seven of whom actually live there, got out safely. When crews arrvied on the scene, they were able to contains the flames to the garage.

Almaleki is accused of running down his daughter and her boyfriend's mother on Oct. 20 in Peoria. His daughter, Noor Faleh Almaleki, died Monday. Almaleki was supposed to be in court Thursday, but the judge delayed the hearing.

Why do you keep calling this an honor killing? In the United States, we call it murder. There is no honor in killing.
