PEORIA – A father accused of running over his daughter because she was "too westernized" has been indicted on first-degree murder charges.

Police say 48-year-old Faleh Hassan Almaleki intentionally drove his SUV into his 20-year-old daughter, Noor, and her boyfriend’s mother, Amal Khalaf, on October 20. Noor died of her injuries on November 2. Khalaf survived but was seriously injured.

Almaleki fled the country after the hit and run but was detained in United Kingdom and sent back to the United States.

Thursday, a grand jury indicted Almaleki on the following charges:

  • First-Degree Murder, a class 1 dangerous felony and domestic violence offense
  • Attempted First-Degree Murder, a class 2 felony
  • Aggravated Assault, a class 3 dangerous felony
  • Leaving the Scene of a Serious Injury Accident, a class 3 felony
  • Leaving the Scene of a Serious Injury Accident, a class 3 felony

Prosecutors believe Almaleki killed his daughter because she was not living according to their traditional Iraqi values.
