PHOENIX - A former Maricopa County detention officer has been sentenced to prison for hitting and killing a woman in a car-motorcycle accident in October.

Adrian Salazar Guzman, 27, will serve 10.5 years in prison after pleading guilty to manslaughter and endangerment.

Goodyear police responded to the fatal accident at about 1 a.m. on Oct. 16 near the intersection of Citrus and Indian School roads.

Police said a motorcycle was stopped at the intersection when Guzman's vehicle ran into the back of the female rider. She was thrown from her motorcycle and died.

His blood alcohol content was .225 on the evening of the accident, which is close to three times the legal limit. He admitted to police he began drinking at 10 a.m. on the day of the accident.

He worked for the sheriff's office for six years.
