PHOENIX -- A Florida inmate has been charged in a 1994 homicide in Phoenix.

The body of Eric Harmon, 35, was found lying under a picnic ramada in Papago Park on Oct. 21, 1994. Phoenix police Sgt. Tommy Thompson said Harmon had also been sexually assaulted.

The case remained unsolved for many years until an inmate in Florida, Jeffrey Lockwood, 40, was identified as the suspect through DNA testing of evidence obtained at the crime scene.

Thompson said a detective with the Cold Case Homicide Unit traveled to Florida to interview Lockwood and obtain additional evidence.

Lockwood was charged with first-degree murder and sexual assault.
