PHOENIX – It’s been 10 months since a horrific accident claimed the lives of four bikers along Carefree Highway.

On a Thursday afternoon in March, a dump truck driver plowed over a group of motorcyclists that was stopped at a traffic light. Those bikers, hit from behind, never saw it coming. Investigators believe the dump truck driver was high on meth at the time of the wreck.

One of the survivors, a Phoenix fire captain, was badly injured in that crash.

For the first time, Ernie Lizarraga and his wife, Lorri, are talking about the accident. They spoke exclusively with 3TV's Scott Pasmore, sharing their heartbreak and explaining how together, they have been able to recover.

"It's harder for me because I remember everything," Lorri said. "I remember everything he doesn't remember."

After numerous surgeries and months of physical therapy, many say that Lizarraga is proof that miracles do happen.

"I consider myself very, very lucky," Lizarraga said. "It's been very hard, very difficult, but ... every week, something good happens that puts me in a good mood.

"I don't dwell on what happened, who did it. I look forward. You've got to."
