PEORIA, Ariz. -- Detectives with the Peoria Police Dept. are recommending charges of endangerment and neglect against the father of a boy found wandering a neighborhood Friday.
Police have not released the father's name.
The child's parents came forward to police more than six hours after the child left his home.
Peoria police said they got a call about the lost child from neighbors who found him in the Suncrest Mobile Home Park near 77th Avenue and Peoria Avenue.
The child had burns from the hot cement on his feet and a soiled diaper according to those who found him.
Police canvassed the entire mobile home park and surrounding neighborhoods knocking on doors and looking for the parents but didn't find anything.
After news reports on the child aired at 9:00 pm Friday night, the father came out of a trailer just down the street from where the little boy was found, claiming he had been asleep all day and that his toddler had somehow gotten out of his crib.
The child's mother came home from work about the same time the father had discovered him missing. She was in hysterics and crying uncontrollably as the father rushed her inside.
Police were at the home Friday night, talking to the parents to decide if their story shows this was truly an accident rather than something criminal.
For the time being the little boy remains in the custody of Child Protective Services.
