Father accused of running down daughter caught after fleeing country

PHOENIX -- Police says Faleh Hassan Almaleki of Glendale, the man who allegedly ran down his own daughter in what reportedly was an attempted "honor killing," has been arrested in Atlanta and is awaiting extradition back to Arizona.

According to the Peoria Police Department, Almaleki drove his Jeep at his daughter, Noor, and her friend Amal Khalaf in the parking lot of the Department of Economic security building in Peoria on Tuesday, Oct. 20.

After the incident, Almaleki drove down to Mexico where he abandoned the Jeep. Officials there later found and seized the vehicle.

In the meantime, Almaleki went to Mexico City where he caught a flight to London. When he got there, UK Port of Entry authorities refused him entry into the country. They contacted U.S. authorities and put Almaleki on a plane back to the U.S. He was arrested by U.S. Marshals as soon as he arrived in Atlanta. He now waiting to be extradited back here to Arizona.

Both victims remain in the hospital, the location of which has not been disclosed. Noor Almaleki suffered life-threatening injuries when she was hit and run over. She is still unresponsive. Khalaf remains in serious but stable condition.

Almaleki will eventually face two counts of aggravated assault.
